    This is THE DEFINITION of hyperventilation. If you look up hyperventilation on wikipedia, it actually describes bhastrika as intentional-hyperventilation.

    no, if you do that you will faint....you are a doctor, look deeply into more calm breathing + look into a Buteyko method, so you understand what really happens when you breathe that much air

    @ qpabani Yeah I read about that in a book. It's one of the techniques various religious groups use to help bring about "spiritual" experiences. Mantra chanting, psalm singing, even all the hooping and hollering that Pentecostals do--it all has the effect of increasing the level of C02 in the brain, which in turn has the effect of inhibiting the brain's reducing valve and allowing other "forces" from the unconscious to come through. These are interpreted as spiritual experiences.
