I got to meet Joel last week at Cinematic Titanic. He's such a nice guy. When I asked him about his prop comedy he said, "yeah, this is easier."

That "SLOW" bit was part of his act, Joel is not slow at all. He is a genius though. This was clever and funny to be purposely bad. I was never one for prop comics, like Carrottop, but really do like Joel's routine from these days with the whole Bad Magician routine.
MST3K rules. Wonder what Crow and Tom would have to say about this video if they saw it?

He was terrible at stand-up (and seemed kind-of stoned).
Who would have thought back then, that just a year or two later, he would be one of the most awesomely funny TV-show hosts ever?

Actually, this being the brand of humor that I grew up with - my mom, uncles, and grandma are masters of deadpan delivery - I can't get enough of this.
Also, I have a strange compulsion to ruffle his hair.
