What a lovely song, and what a fascinating set of comments. A real bit of social history. Marvellous.

Though not being from Up North, we had no idea what it was we were singing about. And we didn't sing that verse about Our Lizzie! :)

We used to sing this at primary school in the 70s. Excellent!

Now poverty has been removed from England perhaps we can show Care and Consideration for those people in the world who are in need of our urgent support.

Picture at 0.58 is Bank Mill on Church Street in Great Harwood and the pic after is halfway down Queen Street. The road on the right is Clayton Street and Mercer Hall wasn't built then, there was still a mill there on left on pic, think it was Princess Mill but not sure???

Now that poverty as been removed from England perhaps we can now show a little Care and Consideration for all the starving Children worldwide. by by donating to their future prosperity.

Great pics, reminder of how hard-won the social changes were. We should fight as hard to keep them as we had to to win them.

Hi Mutti , I remember as a kid hearing all the clogs clonking their way to the local mill and as you say black smoke all the buildings blackened with it now all cleared as if never being there .

My late mother used to work in a cotton mill
She was a "Cotton Winder" and used to shout when talking because of the noise from the looms.
