Some guzheng improvisations. The strings were tuned to the resonator (by ear) to give a "better" sound to an already nice sounding instrument.
. . . Actually, it sounds a bit better in person.
The microphone has trouble picking up certain sounds.
And I need more practice . . .

  • Interesting. I'm thinking of buying a guzheng. How difficult are the strings to pluck (or, is there a lot of tension)? I play guitar, so I was wondering if more or less force is required to pluck the strings.

  • @bachynskymusic The most difficult thing about plucking is the coordination, I think. The high notes require little force but as the strings progress to the deep end, gradually require a heavier pluck. My biggest problem is holding my arms up for extended time, sweat between picks and fingers, and back ache. (Maybe because I'm not playing with proper form) The regular guzheng string will pain bare fingers. If you're nearby Sound of Asia, I feel pretty sure they'll let you try a guzheng.

  • I really liked this. I think you are very talented. Is your guzheng from the Sound of Asia? They have great instruments. I just bought a dan tranh from there and it is first class and not expensive. Please play more. Best Wishes, Keith aka duncan3417

  • @duncan3417

    Thank you!

Yes it was bought from Sound of Asia.

  • It was about half a year ago since I got it. So I'm not a "super super beginner."

  • It sounds pretty good already.

It might be smoother with more practice, but it sounds like you already have a feel for the instrument.

All that work with the home made zithers is paying off.

    Thanks.

  • @bluetongueboy Cool, thanks for the info. I'm not near sound of asia but I was thinking of getting a dunhuang online (one of the cheaper ones). There's none in my town (a smaller town) unfortunately. I think the only way for me is going to buy one and try it out. In any case, great playing and keep up the good work

  • Hey buddy, I just received your reply. I am thinking of buying the same guzheng. I just uploaded a video called dan tranh practice Ly Cai Da. I bought the instrument from Sound OF Asia as well. Please check out the video under duncan3417. Let me know what you think good or bad. Good Luck, Keith

  • C'est vraiment très Joli !!!
