  • Jesse Helms stood up white people being discriminated against. Whites are discriminated against by goverment mandate.

  • im glad he is dead...and i hope the generation that supported him goes with him...

  • The world is better without Helms.

  • We need another Jesse Helms. Noone now has the gall to oppose the unconstitutional Civil Rights Act of 1964 except Ron Paul. The Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act is unconstitutional.

  • @Mr40acresandamule Unfortunately you and many others miss the part where society will refuse to patronize discriminatory enterprises. For example, most Fortune 500 companies recognize same-sex couples and have numerous affirmative action and diversity programs. That is their prerogative. I can choose whether I would like to patronize their organization or not. People will boycott organizations, as seen with Meijer, Walmart, or Target, etc. if they disagree with their actions.

  • @Mr40acresandamule I am opposed to most civil rights laws that discriminate based on race, gender, income, etc. by the government both federal and state. I believe that the federal government should never impose its will on areas mentioned on private enterprise, institutions, and property. I believe that states have a little bit more room to impose their will on private organizations, as you have more of a choice of association when it comes to states.

  • Let me ask you this if you oppose big government. Do you believe that federal civil rights laws in regards to race, gender, class, and religion should not be followed by the private sector? Isn't this what a libertarian believes in. I mean don't they believe a business has the right to deny service to a gay couple, black consumer, if they choose? People believe in limited government, but relying on limited government would never expand democracy to certain groups.

  • Racial fears and the "Bradley Effect" hurt Harvey Gantt. Helms was formidable no doubt about. Gantt probably got 30% of the white vote and 90% of the black vote and lost.

  • We need another Jesse Helms, Gantt was a prick

  • @JohnRhysMusician I feel you man. Personally I just think it's kind of tough to support a man because 'he is in favor of 'small government', which is really a made up term because none of them really do anything substantial to lower spending, when the man is as socially backwards as Helms was. But it's a free country and that's the great thing about it! Peace brother!
