This is a film (A very bad transfer) that my father, LCDR William Melvin took while stationed at Midway island from 1959 to 1961. The film will be re-transferred soon. (The music was not my original choice)
Don't know why the comment was removed but, to answer you, I gave you all that my dad filmed. And yes, you didn't get the point. Try sitting in this thing 14 hours a day, looking out at absolutely nothing or staring at a radar screen. Then, come back to Midway Island where there is....you guessed it.....Absolutely nothing. These guys were the first line of defense for our country back then before satellites and such. I think smoking and drinking was the best part for them.
ABH-3 ROBERT G. I WORKED ON THE LINE AND REFUELING CREWS FROM 1962-1963 EC-121K AND C-121J CONNIES .MIDWAY ISLAND WAS A BLAST.TAKE CARE OUT THERE.ABH-1 R.G. U.S.N.-RET.
May not be a great image, but it sure captures a preflight for a barrier mission. I was with VW-12 (C-20) and AEWBARRONPAC (flight crew 35) from 1959 until 1961. I look forward to the new re-transfer. Thanks for posting this, it brings back a lot of memories
