Thank you for all the birthday wishes... and do you always do the right things despite not receiving gratitude in return? Have you ever been rewarded?

  • hang in there ~ that's really inspiring~~

  • I've been taking care of my handicapped parents since I was 16 (which is going on 24 yrs now) and I have never expected any type of reward. It's the right thing to do so I grin and bare it. It becomes very thankless over the years because it is just expected of me and I guess the only reward I could recieve would be the knowledge that I've made my parents lives a little easier.

  • oh i once helped an old lady and she gave me 40 bucks in return

  • Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great day:)

  • One of the most unexpected thank you gifts I have received was from the chairman of my company in France. I had planned a special event in Chicago for the VIPs (Supervisory Board) of the company and he was very impressed with how everything was handled. I received a Hermès scarf called "La Danse du Cosmos" it's beautiful, and now one of the most valuable accessories I own. :)

  • I try to do the right thing even if I know (or expect) that I am not going to receive gratitude in return. I'd be lying if I said I always did though...but that's just one more thing I can keep trying to improve. There have also been quite a few times I have been rewarded without expecting anything-but I always tend to feel a little guilty when that happens.

  • I never expect gratitude in return for deeds that one would consider good!! Today while I was standing in the grocery store line there was an elderly gentleman in front of me. He didn't have enough money for his stuff so he put the halloween cookies back. I hurried and had the ringer swipe them and put then in his cart and bought them for him. Just the smile it brought to his face was enough for me!! ♥

  • One who acts for the greater good, has received every reward they desire, for the well-being of all is their gift.

    C.H.A.O.S.

  • Ahh gratitude, sweet gratitude, the wellspring from which all blessings flow. You are so gracious, Tony. I'm warmed that you had the kind of birthday you so deserve. XOXO

  • I think people who give without expectation of return, project an attitude of "abundance" and are actually more likely to receive genuine gratitude in return.

But: if something is done with an obvious expectation of "repayment", then the other person may feel suspicious or may give only "formal" (or begrudging or suspicious) gratitude.

    Paradox!

The trick is to realize you can BE that person-of-abundance: try to realize you do have a lot to offer and aren't diminished if you give.
