Since your an 80s kid, do you remember seeing Great Mouse Detective, Black Cauldron, 101 Dalmations 85 re-issue, Fox and The Hound 88 re-issue, Sleepign Beauty 86 re-issue, Song of the South 86 re-issue, Aristocats 87 re-issue, Bambi 88 re-issue, Roger Rabbit, Oliver and Company, American Tail, Land Before Time, All Dogs Go To Heaven and Little Mermaid in theaters? i did and saw them all in theaters. Akira's a fave of mine since i was 14.

The voice of the fairy is Rickie Lee Jones, and I actually like her singing voice; she's noted for having a unique and to some, weird sound to it. Based on the rest of the movie, though, I'm pretty sure that what she warns him of can be interpreted to mean that he might be tempted by forces in the world that could have the power to turn him back into a puppet, which is ultimately an allegory for kids that if they misuse their ability to do whatever they want, they might lose their identity.
