@hebneh They're still out there, just hard to find. If you look hard enough for it, I know you can still find their Fruit Stripe gum. Here in Eastern New England, at the Newbury Comics CD store chain you can easily find Clark's Blackjack & Teaberry gums as well as Beeman's, which you mentioned. I'd forgotten all about Beechies, Beech-Nut's version of Chiclets.
Does anyone remember "Dick Clark's Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show which aired at 7:30 - 8PM from February 16,1958 to September 10,1960? All of the 'Top 40' acts of the day from Buddy Holly, to The Big Bopper to Art & Dotty Todd appeared. I just loved the way the teens in the audience would be chewing on their complimentary sticks of Beech-Nut gum...while proudly wearing their giant "Ific" pins...lol!
A song about Beech-Nut Gum would not normally be what one would expect to encounter being played by a jazz combo in a nightclub or bar. And yet, here it is.
Notice that one of the five flavors of Beechies was "Pepsin". I presume this is what's called Wintergreen today. That was the flavor of Beeman's Pepsin Gum, another old-time product.
Beech-Nut advertised extensively into the 1960s, then the brand vanished completely. What happened?
@stewballmax3 I most certainly do. Remember 'Flavor-Ific'?
(Don't even think about figuring out my age, though this probably gives me away, LOLOLOL).
