1998 Supra Variable Valve Timing System

Variable valve timing or VVT-i has been incorporated on the 2JZ-GE to improve throttle response and low end power, while increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. As the engine reaches higher RPMs the VVT-i system reduces the amount of vavle overlap, to ensure smooth efficient power delivery throughout the entire powerband. It uses a moveable piston located within the intake camshaft sprocket, and a duty cycled oil control valve to provide a 60 degree range of intake cam timing adjustment.
