Solid opal limb cast (opal filling the cavity created when a tree limb is buried and decays). It has been put in a protective glass dome filled with water to keep the opal hydrated. I dug this up at the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine, in Virgin Valley, Nevada in June 2008. And yes, the wound on my hand is part of the price I paid. Opal can be awfully sharp. Worth it, though.
