Here is the simplest way to get into back yard honey production. I'm showing you how to make a top-bar beehive, also known as a Kenyan beehive, because they are very popular in Africa. The bees make their honeycomb vertically connecting it to the top bars. There will be about 30,000 bees in the hive so you have to be serious about bees to use this hive. Bee keepers are willing to help you so join your local bee association to learn more. These are for honey bees not bumble bees. See my bumble nest box video if you want to help the bumble bees. Also see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_amB-a7G-1w to see someone with bees working the hive.

  • You need a swarm placed into the hive with the top bars removed and then replaced. Get in contact with a local bee association for help with this. I'm told lemon grass oil spread on interior surfaces also attract bees to the hive.
