Dr. Dave and Tom Ross describe, illustrate, and demonstrate strategy for racking in 9-ball. This is an example shot from Disc V of "The Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots" (VEPS). The VEPS series includes over 750 shots in 50 different categories, with over 250 "gems" of the game. The series is the most comprehensive collection of pool shots ever published. Disc V covers skill and specialty shots.

  • Really Gr8 video Dr.Dave.. But about the soft break there is no benefit making the 1-ball if three balls did not passes the head string because your opponent will continue... it's illegal break !

  • @nyaha200

Thanks. Some tournaments require a certain number of balls to pass the head string, but this is not in the official WPA rules of pool (although at least 4 balls must be driven to a rail).

  • thanks for these videos, im memorizing these racking patterns so i can try them and see the results

  • You're welcome. I'm glad you like the vid, and I hope you get good results.

Please help spread the word about VEPS.

  • The only 8-ball pattern I'm familiar with is using the second-ball break to get 8-ball motion. The 15-ball rack is much less predictable. In 10-ball, one pattern is to use the right CB direction and speed to pocket one of the 2nd-row balls in the side pocket. Try it out.

  • Dr dave, u r something. Anyway, I like to know if there are similar patterns for 8 and 10 ball game as well..

  • Thanks, but why do you laugh? This is serious stuff! :)
