Say goodbye to the iconic Glenelg Cinema, originally named the Ozone. The art deco building located at Jetty Road, Glenelg is in the process of being demolished.
This is the second beautiful Glenelg building to be demolished in recent years. Anyone remember the old Court House in Mosely Square right next door to the Town Hall? That higeous concrete and glass box irish pub/nandos is there now. Why do people persist in knocking down such beautiful buildings to replace them with rubbish!!
RIP Glenelg Cinema. A sad victim of coroprate callousness. One would think that in 2011 more would have been done to protect a heritage building such as this. I was quite stunned when I found out that this piece of history was actually going to be demolished, and quite saddened when I saw the empty lot (probably soon to be filled by another cookie-cutter shiny-fronted clothes shop). Never forget that what has been lost here can never be replaced!

The first image was from 1937 or '38 - The movie playing was "Woman Chases Man" starring Miriam Hopkins.
