The red-eyed cicada's invaded the outer world of the Ozarks the first part of May. The first pictures I took of them was on May 10 but a month later they are still in abundance. They are just now getting the heat that they like as most of May was wet and cool. Their chirping and songs in the morning hours is just unbelievable..so I decided to to a video..for their sound..their song and their constant chatter after being in meditation in the ground for 13 years !
"For the red-eyed Cicada, that means only once every 13 years and they're here now, but not for long. Most of their lives are spent underground as nymphs. The last month or so they shed their skin, grow wings, and begin singing, but only for a few weeks. They mate; they lay eggs; they die within a month; they really have a very short adult life cycle," said Dr. Nancy Hinkle of the University of Georgia."
