In this video the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, presents ECLAC @LIS2, the cooperation project between ECLAC and the European Union, which seeks to develop a sustainable, innovative and inclusive information society in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Two of the highlights of the programme are the promotion of a regional broadband dialogue as forum of cooperation that aims to reduce the cost of broadband in the region, and the organization of the Third Ministerial Conference on the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2010, where the new regional plan of action, eLAC2015, was adopted.

In addition to these concrete initiatives, the ECLAC @ LIS2 programme, seeks to promote ICTs for development and social inclusion. To this end, technical assistance is provided and best practices are transferred in the areas of health, education, e-government and the productive sector, and steps are taken to mainstream ICTs in the public policies of the countries of the region.
