Warren took over the TD band fall 1958!

Walt, With due respect, Warren did play with TD! Tommy hired him to play at least 4 tracks on a recording session and Warren told me that he also traveled with the band for a short time! Also, Sam didn't take over the TD band until 1961...I played with the band in 1960 and have a very cool photo of our outfit from that time! It's Murray McEachern Respectfully, Rich Pulin

Frank, I KNEW Warren too. Fact is, Warren NEVER played with the TDO. When TD died in 1956 he was chosen to lead the TDO by Jane Dorsey (TD's widow). He made several recordings as leader including Tea For Two Cha-Cha which was a Big Hit! Warren was replaced by Sam Donahue around 1960. FS Jr, was the singer. Warren continued to record under his own name and acquired the rights (for free) to The Pied Pipers. After Sam, Murray McKeckrin (sp?) led the TDO followed by Buddy Morrow in 1978-today.

When I was in the Army down at Ft. Knox, KY ... late in the Korean War ... a band showed up there to entertain us named "The Commanders" and the leader of that group was none other than Warren Covington ... the guy on the extreme right holding the trombone in this singing group.
They were a great aggregation and the bands arrangements reflected the time that Warren Covington spent earlier in the 40's with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

I know it well, Warren and I were good friends here in Tampa, He came by several times and we chatted on the phone . He invited us, to a private party. Connie Haines was there. Thank You and also from Warren, looking down at us. That was a clip when he led the Tommy Dorsey ghost band in the 70', The female vicalist beside him is Lynn Roberts, still singing.

By the way, thats Lynn Roberts vocalist, started in early 50's as a big band vocalist.

Thank you . I had the pleasure of knowing and socializing with Warren, who lived near me.. I great guy. He taught Larry O'Brien to play trombone, now leader of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
