@gavmcinneshotmail Thanks man. Yes, you can get an awesome rock sound out of these! I had fyberskins on the toms and bass but it sounds killer with a clear powerstroke on the batter side. For my rock gigs, I just switch out to some coated ambassadors and keep them loose and they sing. It's a good kit for small venues but if you have to play a big room without mics...your done for. If you are going to buy a catalina jazz, go to a five star drum shop. They'll give you some sweet deals. Enjoy!
