The Morgan Family
http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s-MORG-TRE-1384.html
(Lords Tredegar descended from the Lords of Caerleon dating back to 1089) also resided at Ruperra Castle.

Set in the beautiful Welsh countryside in the first half of the 20thc, Ruperra Castle was used for hunting, fishing and shooting by the Viscount while Tredegar House (set in 90 acres) was used by the heir apparent for extravagant weekend house parties.

Other branches of the same family also owned Llantarnum Abbey (nr Caerleon), Llangattock Court (nr Abergavenny), Coed-y-Gorse Mansion on the banks of the River Rumney at Llanederyn, Cardiff and the nearby Llanrumney Hall (the Hall reputedly the birthplace of the Buccanneer Sir Henry Morgan, also having extensive ancestral ties with Morgan descendants in the USA.) Notable descendants of these branches being "The Last of the Great Tycoons" the American Banker John Pierpoint Morgan and the Princess of Wales, Lady Diana Frances Spencer. http://www.data-wales.co.uk/morg_llhll.htm

The Morgans came to prominance by supporting the Tudors (Henry VII) and were later to prove to be indominable, resilient military leaders during the Cromwellian Protectorate serving as either Whig or Tory M.P.'s throughout history.

Tredegar House was last lived in by the eccentric Evan Frederick Morgan, Viscount Tredegar (a Catholic socialite who practised paganism!) A friend of Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas, Nancy Clare Cunard, Augustus John, George Bernard Shaw and Aldous Huxley. Evan failed to enter the priesthood, this may have been as a result of sending his valet to lectures in his place whilst studying at the English College in Rome. Evan's sister, the beautiful wild child Gwyneth Erica Morgan (1895-1925), disappeared under mysterious circumstances during December 1924, her pyjama clad body was recovered from the Thames in May 1925. http://gwynethmorgan.fortunecity.com/blog/entry1.html

Evan's close friend the occultist, Aleister Crowley (otherwise known as "the Beast") claimed that the last Viscount Tredegar had the right to "bear Excalibur". The House is supposedly haunted built over a running spring (thus creating a "dragons breath" - a portal for paranormal and magical activity.) A variety of tours are available throughout the year. http://www.tredegarhouse.blogspot.com/
