I'll die without having heard it alive!

The beauty of the violin is elevated to extraordinary heights by the sexy and powerful support of the Cello. What a beautiful piece!!! Damn, Just damn!

OK, so you got Issac Stern, Yo Yo, Abbado, and the Chicago Symphony. So, you expect a lot. But I'm not digging Yo Yo's intro and I'm not digging the mix on the orchestra. Plus, Issac Stern never does much for me. Check out the Rattle/Berlin Phil and the Oistrach/Rostrapovitch performances. I find both to be more convincing.

I don't think he is playing the "Davidov" here.I think it is his other cello. And it is a brute! :)

what a beautiful performance. i don't think the common listener really truly understands the difficulties of playing triplets over a four/four bar of music. brilliant composing and brilliant playing. of course i wouldn't expect any less from stern and yo-yo ma

I might like Rostro's interpretation a tad better, but that doesn't make me adore this any less <3 LOVE

It's a shame this wasn't well-received. Ah well... I think Brahms made out pretty well regardless. Thanks for the upload!

When I was three (in 1959), this was one of the pieces that got me hooked on classical music. Schumann's "Rhenish" symphony and Schubert's "unfinished" were two of the others. The remainder were Hindemith's string trios. Oddly enough, these are all underestimated pieces, in my opinion. Though I'm not fond of Strad cellos, I like YoYo's on this piece. But I'd prefer Paul Tortelier's old cello, before he too got a Strad. Lovely, singing tone- no grunt.
