  • yeah I guess there is indeed a bit of light fall-off around the corners. The rectangle in the centre helps a lot though in reducing the amount of light in the centre (visible in 0:31) and spreading some of that light back to the reflector.

Have to admit that on the portability front I always have to take a lot of care to not get it crumpled but I guess using other materials might help for that.

  • Nothing fancy, just aluminum foil as used for cooking ;o)

  • You've got to make slots/openings on the box. Otherwise, how do you dissipate the heat generated in that enclosure?

  • This was tested with an Olympus FL50R which didn't seem to generate enough heat for it to ever be a problem.

Regardless, the front is just tracing paper so if heat was in fact a problem, it should've already lit up n flames :o) ... at the same time it should in theory be sufficiently pourous for heat from a "normal flash" not to accumulate.

Having said that, thanks for the suggestion though. Always good to play it safe I guess. (and thanks for stopping by)

  • Have you figured out how to make it portable and to have little to no light falling off the edges. Maybe a scrim inside the box to bounce the light back into the box instead of the light hitting the box directly. I have tested my Chimera boxes which I know cost me hundreds and the light is incredibly even from the centre of the box right out to the corners.. Thanks for sharing.

  • great work
