Hi there, as far as I know, this stove can only run on white gas or petroleum. I'm no expert though. To fill the stove just unscrew cap on brass tank and fill through a small funnel or seringe. Hope this is helpfull and you get to use it.

Thanks for the comment, It can run on either white gas(other names coleman fuel or shellite) or petroleum. I don't recommend petroleum as it stinks but some swear by it.

I have one exactly like this one - an Optimus 8R. Bought it new in 1973. Your video inspired me to find it, clean it off, and fire it up. I had stored an eyedropper and a small flint firestarter in the kit. The tank was still about half full of camping fuel. After I had cleaned it up, I took some fuel from the tank using the eyedropper and put it into the little 'moat' under the burner and lit it with the flint. She fired up just fine, boiled 2 cups of water in 5 minutes! Finer fuel next time!

I have one of these, it's the second example of the type.

I haven't used it a whole lot because I have to get a replacement pricker for certain & I may also need a seal for the cap or a jet.

I am in Britain. I burn Panel Wipe #3. It is pure petroleum spirit.

It is petrol without the additives that's in motor fuel to care for an engine.

Using pump petrol stinks & it burns slightly rich: Not reccomended unless you are desperate.

I bought the exact same stove 30 years ago too. Here's a tip I read in the original manual: when you're ready to shut down the stove, turn it off so the flame goes out, then turn the valve open completely for a few seconds. This helps keep the needle in the nozzle clean. I've taken mine apart and completely cleaned it from stem to stern many times. I love the way is sounds like a little rocket!

I have the same exact model its so powerfull and it burns like almost every flammable liquid Mostly used in higher mountains and icy/snowy country's. Gas often fail in verry cold zones. U should never get rid of this piece Its a collectors item to. best stove imo
