The band loved the original mix of Ten, but were also interested in what it would sound like if I were to deconstruct and remix it," says producer Brendan OBrien. "The original Ten sound is what millions of people bought, dug and loved, so I was initially hesitant to mess around with that. After years of persistent nudging from the band, I was able to wrap my head around the idea of offering it as a companion piece to the original giving a fresh take on it, a more direct sound."

Matt's opinion on Even Flow
Matt: When I was in Soundgarden and we were making Badmotorfinger, Eddie brought up the mixes to Ten and I distinctly remember hearing the chorus for Evenflow and thinking that's HUGE. So hooky, its got a really rad Zeppelin huge rock feel to it. Although we've played it a couple of thousand times since Ive been in the group I think that's the quintessential Pearl Jam song. Even though it gets played out, the nuts and bolts of that song are just amazing.

I prefer the original sound of the album, this one almost feels like a demo tape. The guitars sound heavier just because they're louder and the voice is pushed far behind in the mix. The "overproduced" sound of the original version that some people seem to hate was more cohesive and smooth and fitted the songs better. I usually like raw sounding records, but Ten was kind of MEANT not to sound like this. Rawer isn't always better, as in this case.

Brendan O' Brien kills bands and his sound sucks ass. I challenge you to find a band that became MORE famous after he started producing them. You won't. Pearl Jams sucked after this album, and this remix is depressing - especially because a few of you actually like it. The one exception in his career might be SuperUnknown which is uncharacteristic BOB, and I would argue succeeded in spite of his involvement. Still, SG died after he was involved with them.

@AFirmKickInThePants I totally agree with you. I don't like Brendan O' Brien mixes becouse they often sound like you said - loud guitar, too much bass. I also noticed that albums he had worked on sound very compressed - best examples are Core by Stone Temple Pilots, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water by Limp Bizkit and especially Dogman by King's X. Generally when there's a lot of going on in the song (many loud instruments at one time), everything blends.

Actually I really like this version a lot better than the original because the original Even Flow was just that , it was too smooth and over produced. But the second best version isnt this one or from TEN, instead its Pearl Jams 1992 Alive cd single for Even Flow ( The Japanese import version ) sounds way better , plus its the same version as the music video for Even Flow. Brendan O Brien did his best to capture the raw sound of Pearl Jam demo days with this version . Either way, its all good
