I work for at&t and can tell you it stands for: High-Speed Downlink Packet Access

I cannot get my X1i to work. I keep getting the following messages...
The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap settings.
Warning - There is a problem connecting to the GPRS servicein your registered home network.
Could you please get me through this as in your video you are up and running on ATT in the US with the X1i version

Hi, do the xperia x1i work with att 3g network? And what is the point of making an american version x1a if so? Thank you!

yep the x1i does work with it. the point of making an x1a is mainly due to the fact that due to some copyright nonsense if im not mistakened. That video recording that the x1i has. Also the x1i in some parts of the country that doesnt run on 1900 band for att u wont get 3g ... you will be stuck with edge.
Those are the only two reasons id say.

dude ran the test compared to my brothers iphone and got almost twice as much speed on the simple test. strange thing is that my x1i shows 'H' where his shows '3G'. can this be right? also, great vid mon

Yea H is correct, att upgraded their service to support HSDPA which is basically 2x 3g.

did u pay the 700 something for the phone?
do you know if at&t has plans for it?
like the iphone 1st generation it was like 600 for some people but inside the contract it would be like perhaps 300. do you know anything about it?

Doubt if att would have plans for it, then again too early to tell.
