Excellent review. One other major flaw with the Smoothee is the holder. The clips on the holder are so rigid and tight that the iPhone glass will most definitely be scratched with prolonged use. And if you have a screen shield...forget about it. The holder clips will absolutely ruin the shields. I got the Smoothee as a gift and I'm already planning on selling it.
I think the single thing that's preventing me from buying this is that it looks like you can't have your iPhone in a case ... to make matters worse ... I use the LifeProof case which adds a little size to the iPhone. Too bad they didn't make the mount adjustable like the mounts for bike handlebars.
I just ordered one of these for my GoPro HERO2. I will also be getting the new iPhone 4S soon and it has IS so it might be interesting to do an updated review with these two other cameras. Another point you mentioned is "why" would you use this when you can just take a different camera. Well, i'm planning on doing some backcountry hiking ... the GoPro and or iPhone will be much lighter than taking my Canon 7D ... that's just my take.
Great review. I 100% agree with you. I own a glide cam 5000 along with a hmc 150 by panasonic. with the two paired it makes for some amazing footage. I also have a TMC-700 soda can video camera that takes amazing video as well. My Droid takes decent SD video footage and i don't have an Iphone and all your points are well taking seeing people that shoot video with an iphone aren't really planning to shoot. It i more of a "hey i have video and I should get this" type of video.
