In 1998 Rod Harrington was the #1 ranked player in the world. His performance in the '98 Matchplay was evidence of this. Phil Taylor was eliminated early on in the quarter-finals by Ronnie Baxter, who was still in the BDO at the time. This set-up an interesting Semi-finals line-up in which Keith Deller (former 1983 World Champion) had to face Rod Harrington, and Ronnie Baxter would end up facing Chris Mason.
lol what the hell was manley doing. 131+ you can make a case for but not 127. Keith takes thato out 25-30% of the time. I prefered darts back then I think, its on too much now it gets kinda boring seeing the same people playing every 2 months.

Deller was no doubt the fairytale of the 1998 World Matchplay, for the 83 World Champion to make a semi-final of a major tournament 15 years later was a true showing of his character.
