I have the break issue in my car too. The ABS still works, but not very well anymore. From what I hear it is an expensive problem to fix, but there are a couple companies that redo ABS controllers rather than just getting a new one.
You may have really screwed yourself. Not sure which system you have. Check all connections on the back of the sensor. Ignition on. Go into VAG-COM, Brake electronics, read value block 05. Field one should be steering angle. With the steering wheel off, turn the clock spring until its at 0 degrees or as close as possible. Reinstall steering wheel. Perform angle sensor calibration (Google it). If this doesn't work, you either broke it, or a dealer will need to do a login and set it for you.
