This is still pretty sweet for a first car. Who says a teenager cant enjoy a family car? If you and your friends are snowboarders or surfers this car would come in great handy.

@aodhanof90 never had a petrol car in my life, all TDI even a V6 tdi. (driving a renault dci right now)
it is true that u have to pull to redline once in a while to clean the exhaust from carbon

@janssen70 That's what I was thinking, but my friend who owned the car was freaking out saying that you needed to shift the TDI @ about 3.5K. I did do some reading on it which pointed out the engine lugging, but I think that really only applies on hills. Is it safe to assume that you own a TDI?

@aodhanof90 u can easily shift up at 2k rpm and downshift at 1200rpm
not only it is better for the engine but also for clutch and mileage

my father bought an '09 sportwagen tdi when these models first came to the united states, not even three years later, its at 128,000 mi and counting, still delivering no less than 38 mpg average on mixed city/highway driving, we often see up to 45 mpg on a tank at the general 70-75 mph highway speeds here in Texas. what a great car this turned out to be, for the first foreign purchase in our family!

This car in europe is called "Golf Variant" But my dad has the "Passat Variant" that it is much best!!!

@mpgomatic I have two questions for you. the first one is, what was your average speed on the highway well getting 40mpg and the second is about my driving. I was recently driving my friends 03 TDI, I was shifting the 5 speed at 2,000-2,500 rpm. the car seemed to feel fine doing this but the owner thought I was short shifting and lugging the engine. do you have any thoughts on that?

@aodhanof90 We usually spell out the highway speed ranges in the full reviews on the website. Cruise target speed is 68 MPH. I haven't spent any time driving '03 TDIs, although I'd like to pick one up as a project car. Check the TDIclub forums for specific recommendations on shift RPMs.

Nice review, but the audio quality on your videos is terrible - I can't hear it on the computer speakers even with it turned all the way up.

Thanks, Srapps! It seems that YouTube can fiddle with audio tracks in the upload process. Never know what it will do until it's uploaded. I've been working to avoid these problems.
