Good question. I heard somehwere (maybe in a NY times article) that we all have a common ancestor or parent. If we take this into consideration, arn't we all already one family? On the other hand, the practical realization of getting all people to feel like one family is hard to imagine. In the end, I think it is important that even if an ideal seems very hard to attain, we should still strive to live up to it or atleast hold it as a measure for how we should act... Right?
