A horse named Check Mate was killed at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
Check Mate was the latest victim of the Rookie Saddle Bronc event that claimed another horse named Strawberry Fudge in 2009. Another horse named Cajun Katy was also injured and taken away in 2009, but rodeo promoters refuse to admit what happened to her.
The Rookie Saddle Bronc event has a history of horses out of control and taking bad falls, which is the very reason why CFD officials keep it.
In the previous four days of the 2011 rodeo, four calves and two steers have also been hauled out of the arena. Another steer left on three legs, with an obviously serious leg injury. These injuries are posted on SHARK's YouTube account.
