A century after this historic finding, Machu Picchu has become one of the places that millions long to visit at least once in their lifetimes. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

the locals knew about machu picchu but didn't do anything and one of the locals told that man. I'm sick of white people taking credit for so many different things. Christopher Columbus was looking for fucking india, james cook didn't find australia, Willem Janszoon did. just like Hiram Bingham was told about Machu Picchu

In Machu Piccu, sunrise is strange so as sunset.The Incas built Machu Piccu as a sun observation point to mark milestone of the rotating solar system.One day in 2012 sunlight will pear through three specially built gates at Machu Piccu and this senario was observed by the Incas sitting at the open stadium some five hundred years ago(about 1500 A.D.)The senario was recorded in the historical writing of the Incas.

el gobierno peruano ya sabia que existia machu picchu en 1912, por falta de recursos economicos no exploro muchos habitantes del cuzco ya sabian de la existencia , asi que el mundo esta equivocado que binghan descubrio ¿whats? eso es falso, binghan vino a saquear los restos , como huacos etc, y el gobierno no hizo nada en ese entonces, esa la verdadera historia.
