Mitt Romney on John McCain
The Early Show 07:05am
Interview

TRANSCRIPT:
HARRY SMITH: Has there been a point in the last few weeks when you thought damn, I wish I was on that ticket?

MITT ROMNEY: All the time, I wanted to be at the top of the ticket but John McCain you know, he surprised me and a lot of other people by coming from behind and beating me... you know he's a guy that knows how to fight all the way to the finish.

SMITH: Yea so much time and attention has been spent talking about John McCain's running mate in this case, and now they are defending themselves about clothes and all these other things. One wonders if there is a Presidential campaign going on here. Is Sarah Palin, has she turned out to be a drag on this thing?

ROMNEY: Well I think for a first time candidate on the national stage ... your subject to the national spotlight... of course anyone is going to make some mistakes... she's been a positive addition to the ticket.

SMITH: Your going to meet with John McCain, he's got really 8 days to close this deal. Literally, make a case for himself. What is the scenario that has to take place in order for him to overcome what in some polls is a double digit lead for Barack Obama.

ROMNEY: ... I think the argument has to be one that connects with the American people, reminding him that in turbulent times you don't want someone who's just a good charming speaker, you want somebody who has been tested and proven and has the experience to get our economy moving again and that the course that John McCain sets, low taxes, investment in energy independence, that's the right course ...

  • Yeah very typical. Just like neo-cons going into Iraq thinking that the US would be greeted as liberators...look how that turned out. Yeah, if you really think that he went to a "black baptist church" for political reasons you are the one blinded by ideology, not me

  • Typical shallow, reckless, and naive liberal thinking. Show me some results of Obama server "people in need". Mobsters also "help people in the community in need", as a means to rise to power. He also started to go to a black baptist church in Chicago to win local elections.

  • Typical fear mongering. I never said i wanted to release any prisoners. Obama has served people all is life. He has donated his life to helping people in need when he could've easily gone into corporate law and make millions

  • Romney earned his money, Obama never has had a real job. Why don't we release all the murderers from prison on your street.

  • Yeah, you're right. A man who wants to double Guantanamo bay and who calls Obama an elitist when he has 350 million dollars is really the best man for the job

  • Your a tool! Romney was the best candidate and you know it!

  • Hello rossmilner77, that will be scary and I agree with you. Yet..this "change" attitude had made this presidential election less enthusiastic for me as a political science major. I was a John McCain supporter until he chose Palin, I was originally a supporter of Mitt Romney. I think what resulted in these two candidates is bad judgment. And about America turning into a socialist country, nevermind that, it might gonna turn into the United States of Arabia under Hussein Obama.

  • If Obama gets in, it will be end of days (kinda like that Schwarzenegger mofie). America will be turn into a socialist country, the blacks will take over, and the dead will rise up. Is that what you want America!? Zombies?!!

  • I don't care about Syria, they deserved it because of their support for terrorist groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad. I am an American and considered Syria my enemy. And if you do support these organization, then it means you are my enemy. And if that's so then me and you are in a proxy war with each other. I will always fight against the evil whether it is against al-Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad and even the Quds Force of Iran. I will side with Israel always.

  • Romney's a tool
