Sonny Kalawe explains How to make a traditional lau lau for baby's first birthday. Hawaiian style marshallese style
Ingredients
tea leaf
Taro leaves
Pork
Butterfish
Hawaiian sea salt
Twine
Large steam pot
Steam 4 to 5 hours
It's best to debone the taro leaf first. You must cook for a long time because of the pork and the taro leaf... the taro leaf will make your throat itchy if not cooked long enough
Preparing the food before the party is as much a part of the celebration as the day of the party. In this case the party is in over 3 weeks. It is traditional here in hawaii and other islands to have a huge luau for babies first birthday.
