Always avoid looking down at the gear lever.
You should have a mental picture of the gear layout. This will enable you to change gear without looking at the diagram on top of the gear lever. Your eyes should be on the road.
With practice, changing gear becomes second nature.

  • I've read that when stopping, one should avoid shifting down to 1st, and just go to 2nd then to neutral. Is this true? Because I've always shifted to 1st when I'm about to stop.. :| Thanks.

  • @chrismeister15 No its not true, its best to gently push it towards 1st when your moving at a slow walking pace just before you stop, you'll find with practice it will 'drop in' without any effort. If the gearbox is quite worn it can be difficult selecting 1st on the move, putting it into 2nd before selecting 1st can sometimes help with that problem

  • a question, dost it hurt your car if you go from 5 to 1 or 4 to 1?

will it hurt if i do 1 to 4 or 5?

  • @robvya 5th to 1st is fine if you've slowed to a walking pace. Don't try for 1st when the car is moving above 10mph. 4th to 1st is ok if your speed is low enough. It won't hurt to change from 1st to 4th or 5th but you'll probably stall the engine. 2nd to 4th or 3rd to 5th are very common block changes

  • I have a Seat Ibiza I am finding it difficult to change from 1st to 2nd gear all the other ways of changing it is fine, even from 2nd to 1st. But when I change from 1st to 2nd the gear gets stuck, makes a noise when its not in gear. I find it very hard to move it, I've tried changing different ways from flicking it but it sometimes go into 4th gear. It must be me because I have had two other people drive the car and they have no problems...so what am I doing wrong?

  • @chocolat80 It could be a number of things, but the most common is not pushing the stick to the left hard enough. Try pushing to the the left before moving the stick back and let me know if it worked for you...

  • @blkcnzproductions It's VTEC. Nothing's impossible. I just had a worn out dog gear and running fine again. Everyday trashing since year 2000, never had major problems. Only alternator belts getting torn out.

  • @blkcnzproductions fuck up.

  • @09204418448

why are you even on 9k rpm in 1st gear unless you're doing some shitty burnout or just wanna fuck your motor up

  • @BackInAGiffy

    How fucking dumb are you

  • are you driving on a mountain pass XD

  • Hi, I'll be starting my lessons in April, and I must say I have never driven a car, is it really difficult to drive if you're a beginner? And is a Citreon Saxo too much to insure for 17 year old teenagers? I'd like to have one but I heard the insurance was £12000 is this correct or am I worrying too much? Thanks.

  • I always hold the clutch too much and end up revving the car when i change it -_-

  • @www2passcouk thank you!
