I actually prefer this version over the original. Stipes voice has this certain touch of seriousness that accomodates the meaning of the lyrics better.

Why does everything have to be about "who, what is better". Why not revel in the uniqueness of each. Both Masters both original. It's not a contest, listen to the song.

While I prefer this version, I can accept that it's because of preference built on past experience. Mostly. I'd consider myself an advocate of originals, but some songs are beloved to me because of how they came to me. "I Will Always Love You" will always be Whitney Houston to me, though it's not the original. Likewise this version is my ultimate because it was sent to me by someone I had an intense relationship with, not because it is necessarily better. It's my relationship with the song.
