  • I am on the mold making process I used Hydrocal on the back and opened the ultracal by accident so I used two differant to make the mold. I am to the process of splitting it and its not coming apart to easy, infact its cracking a lot... was this a horrible mistake on my part?

Any suggestions would be a great help at this point... thank you in advance

  • @rohrer23 You used two different kinds of plaster on the same half of a mold, correct? as long as it was done before the other was completly set. If the mold is ultracal and the second half is hydrocal that isint an issue at all. what did you use as a release? The issues are mold release (inbetween the two layers) pry points (the small bits of clay to get the screw driver inbetween the two halves) and avoiding undercuts. Undercut will cause a mold lock and keep it from seperating.

  • Thank you so much for putting this on, just started this as a hobby and its fun to see how differant each artist is when doing there molds and mask making. You are great, thank you very much. I look forward to more of your videos, I appreciate it more than you know.

  • @rohrer23 And I appreciate you, Im always shocked when I see that 300 or so people have watched a 20min long tutorial on making some obscure thing. Im pretty quick and dirty as a mask maker normally when I make a mask I need it NOW! Last sat I had a mask I set out to dry stolen that I needed that night so I had to make a new mask from scratch in 30 min- thats kind of what Im used to I guess, kinda like a dog who always growls at his food bowl for no reason. Threat or no I always feel rushed.

  • Where were you 10 years ago when I was into making mask? When I broke my mold I gave up and haven't picked it up since. I wish they had a detailed video like this back than. Maybe during the winter I will give it another try again. The only problem is that I have the big bust with the shoulders. How do I mold the sculpture without including the shoulders?

  • @Joiseygal sorry I missed this comment till now...must be haunt season. Im posting a video soon called lobster boy and it is molding a half mask on a full bust, its super easy you just put clay over the area you dont want to mold. look for the lobster boy video and it will show that technique.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I've just gotten into mask making and this video was the PERFECT resource. It has really given me a direction to go with in how to mould from a clay sculpture. Now first thing's first...do a lifecast.

  • @StiltbeastStudios I will definitely be looking out for your lobster boy video. Thanks!

  • @StiltbeastStudios Well you are very good at what you do, and I cant wait to see more. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to be a teacher to those of us who are new at this. Appreciate it more than you know.

  • @IamAphish sure, I will do it as a during the week bump as opposed to a wednesday tutorial cause Im sure I can get the idea across in 5min or so.

  • Hey, could you make a video of making the finished mask?
