Doubt anyone cares but the book is actually called Wildcattin' in Anderson's script. I guess it's cowboy slang for drilling for oil randomly in unexplored areas.

@fishman017 What a bunch of fucking philistines. I'm gonna try that tomorrow.

This is an outstanding film. On many occasions I have mimicked this scene, particularly the gunshot sound effects, hoping for a response. Nobody ever gets it. Anyway, I think my rendition is right on and more people need to watch this excellent film.

I always saw Eli Cash's first novel "Wildcat" as a reference to the oft-mentioned Wampus Cat in McCarthy's first novel "The Orchard Keeper"

i like in the beginning when he is at the press conference for the release of his book when he answers the question from that one reporter and he says: "i know a lot of people like to believe that custer died at the battle of little bighorn, what this book presupposes is, maybe he didn't?" hahaha, i love this movie.
