Since the EPS 16+ is backwards compatible with the Mirage and the original EPS. In this video well hear the difference between the 8 bit depth of the Mirage and the 16bit depth of the 16+ along with a comparison between the tonal variations that the D to A converters of each sampler have on the same sampled sound.

As always Thanks for Stopping By!

  • I wish you would record your videos in higher quality audio. The audio quality of this video is abysmal. I'm not talking about the quality of the machines. Anyway I don't really feel inclined to make any comment on the machines because I can barely hear them. Sounds like you put your videos through some nasty bit compression and distortion. What kind of camera do you use and why don't you just record direct to a proper audio interface? As you can tell this really bothers me as someone who reall

  • @dafluke To be fair; I'm quite amused that my videos bother you that much.

  • wow, the difference between the eps and mia. How the mia brings out the hi hats

  • @antichicmusic Yep! A/D converters make such a difference.

  • @TheDaydreamSound I guess the rest of my comment got truncated. Anyway, I ended up still thanking you for making these videos, and I appreciate your desire to educate people about Ensoniq keyboards. Sorry if I came off rude.

  • Ah Fly Like An Eagle, love that song, love samplers!

  • Maybe I am hearing this all wrong, but to me the Mirage sounded compressed and dirty, the EPS a little less grit, and the Akai and MIA really opened up the sample, more breathing, air, detail.

I can see how the effect the Mirage produces could be used constructively for an effect on a single instrument sample, but overall I don't see how I would want that for the "soundscape" overall.

  • SNR increases with sample rate the ensoniq's volumes sounded similar though the EPS 16+ had a bit more clarity from the bit rate. The 44.1k sample rate added noise from the db increase from the higher sample rate.

I imagine 96KHz or 192KHz from that 8-bit 30KHz would sound horrible w/o EQing the volume down. It's ideal to start from a higher sample rate and down sample that's how professional studio do it according to wiki good video just the same the Mirage sounds dope.

  • The mirage sounded best others got progressively worse. MPC and Echo sounded about similar and Echo probably could have been tested at a higher sample rate, though would probably sound worse.

It would have been better starting with the highest sample/bit rate tested being used and down scale as needed rather than up scaled from a 8 bit sample.

You can't add bits of date that aren't there to start seemed like it sounded more distorted as sample and or bit rate increased.

  • @boombap28 If I saw one of those lying around at a synth store I really would be tempted to pick it up.
