I remember learning ALL the countries, capitals, and regions in fourth grade (that's about age 10-11). This was a private Lutheran school in Fort Lauderdale, so I'm not sure what they were teaching in the pubes, but apparently geography education has truly festered in the years since I've left. I agree with theaternerdfighter, Geography is a fascinating subject.
BTW...Charly and/or Josh are Doctor Who fans, aren't they?

Is it possible for you to type coherently? KTHX.

so u met these people and asked where they live on a map and thought "ok well you not one of the people who cant locate us on a map" heh funny
-
brojoghost,
That actually might be true. A lot of people lie when being asked survey questions, for a laugh.
-
I personally think it matters more to know about the people who live away, then to know what shape their home is.

I can find the US! (I'm American by the way) I just look for sideways oval-y thing with two legs :D Not a very good description, but I can remember what the shape looks like, so I can find myself on the map! Yay!

uh huh because we all know that pig latin shows ones supreme intelligence.. Show off. Both America and Britain made slaves of others. And so they both pretty much suck... Me? I want to move to Ireland!! :) heh.

After having lived in America for 5 years, I can honestly say that I never met a single one who couldn't locate themselves on a map.
This statistic is either including illegal aliens who are uneducated and generally live like pigs OR it's just an exaggeration all the way around.

I don't think I have ever met someone who doesn't know how to locate the U.S. on a map. However, this statistic may be a result of the fact that geography is just not something that American schools tend to stress. My first and last course devoted exclusively to geography was in the seventh grade, and even then the teacher wasn't really involved and the class consisted mostly of word searches and typo hunting.(our teacher gave extra credit for finding them, so it wasn't exactly hard to pass.)

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans cannot do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and I believe that our education, like such as South Africa and the Iraq, and everywhere such as, and I believe that our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. and South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children."
