This video answers that question you've always had -- what would a dog look like with an elephant's trunk? My pooch is an Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Mix who likes a job and to solve a good puzzle. For his amusement he is provided with one puzzle he can rarely solve. His toy is a corrugated drainage pipe in the back yard, and a local chipmunk is drafted to climb in (and Alvin is quite willing do so with irregular frequency just to torment the poor dog). Watch Jake try to convince Alvin to leave the pipe. Listen to Alvin chirp back at him. Sorry to stop the movie in 4 minutes but this would just go on and on and on...

  • cool, just ran across this looking for something else. My dog 'Blue' is blue heeler X border collie as well. Some of the mannerisms very similar.

  • @Colhoon Thanks! Hope you have as much fun with Blue as I do with Jake. Like your dog's name!

  • At one point, Jake looked like he was trying to lift the hose and dump Alvin into the tree well

  • @Matty11209 -- Yes, that is exactly what he was trying to do. He had several tactics to get the chippy out, including trying to dump him out. My favorite? Hmmm...trying to bark him out. Or, how he goes to the middle and tries to hedge his bets on which end of the hose the chippy will run out...he is so smart!

  • what happend to the chimpmunk?

  • @casienwhey The chippy lived to torment Jake on another day. I called Jake into the house after he behaved this way for a long, long time. That gave the chippy a chance to head for the hills! They were back at it again in a couple of days. That Alvin! Thanks for asking!

  • They are the smartest dogs by far...Mine is a collie/heeler as well LOVE her!!!

  • I have a cattle dog mixed with a malamute and looks are similar. Body style at least is. Colors are a little different.

  • YouTube cut off the last comment, so to answer your question, Jake's a svelte 52 pounds having lost 10 pounds in the last year with a change of diet and smaller treats for training (we call him the Biggest Loser!). Thinking of putting up another video of him -- he's such a fine fellow! Thanks for your questions.

  • Thanks for appreciating Mr. Jake! Since Jake is a rescue puppy we don't know his exact birth date. He'll be turning 6 at the end of June/beginning of July 2010.

Jake certainly looks like a border collie in terms of coloring and markings. We probably wouldn't know about the ACD part but the shelter had his sister, too -- and she looked completely ACD - a gorgeous dog!
