@javajax0987 Thank you Rocker You are absolutley right The confusing part comes in because Gus Backus Did lead on quite a few songs AND he sounded almost exactly like Norman Wright so it was hard to tell them apart .
@rocker1942 Jan Berry was the lead voice on the Beach Boys' recording of "Barbara Ann," the Beach Boys did not play on their records ( that's Glen Campbell, Barney Kessell and Carol Kaye you hear).....stuff happens. The point was the song and the sound, not accurate documentation. A book is in the works from one of the top studio musicians which will bring this all to light.
Heck, building529: I don't know. There are also several records by Dawn that have nothing to do with Tony Orlando and the ladies, MIllie Vanilli didn't sing on their records, The girl group the Crystals didn't sing on their records, Little Joe and the Thriillers sang "Peanut" even though the record label says " Peanuts," Only Roger McGuinn and Daivd Crosby sang on the Byrds' recording of "Mr,. Tambourine Man", and Roger was the only " Byrd" who played on the recording,
@rocker1942 My Dot record of Whispering Bells lists Kripp Johnson as the lead singer. How is it that there are 2 Dot records with different lead singers listed. I am sitting here looking at the record.
I'm going byinformation on record labels issued by Dot and Mercury records purchased in New York in the mid-50s, by me, and an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show by the Dell Vikings. A white guy sang lead on "Come Go With Me," and identified himself as Gus. I saw the show. Both the Dot and Mercury labels on my records list Gus as the vocalist on "Come Go" ....and "Jitterbug Mary", and Joey Biscoe as the lead on "Whispering Bells." Obviously someone somewhere got confused along the line.
