This is the second of three yurt imagery collections Myscha compiled off the net and David edited into slideshow format. These images came from various web sites and were compiled for our own research purposes, and to post on our family blog. To see a list of the links we used to compile these, go to our " webesharin " blog and check out the yurts section.

  • what about water shower sink bath etc? What about plumbing and things of that nature?

  • @lestat34208 Some are quite sophisticated with plumbing and composting toilets and the like, very similiar to what you would have in a trailer or camp.

  • I like the setup at about 1:55 or 1:56 into the movie. Everything I've seen is visible lattice on the walls and windows. Do you know what they did to get it like that?

  • I've never put one up(yet!) But our understanding is that all of the dividing walls need to be free standing, like office partitions.

  • I LOVE yurts!

How hard and expensive is it to install solar, plumbing etc and be totally off grid comfortably?Im saving for a yurt now and buying some land in the country!

  • We have yet to build...solar we would like to do; as for plumbing, we've put a composting toilet in our converted hunting camp. It works well (no septic!) and cost about 2,000$...its electric powered.

  • its not yurts assholes

  • @astroguyz how do you install them into a yurt though?

  • Thanks for gathering all these pics and posting. Love seeing all the different ideas that people have. Want!!

  • wooo cool

  • That Nome yurt (if you mean the one at Anvil Mountain) does get maintained, but the key to keeping it upright in 70mph wind is that it is staked to the ground. Its a Nomad Shelter Yurt - the prototype, in fact. The company is based in Homer now, but we still put up yurts all over the state in some pretty extreme conditions.
