This is one of many lessons that will be coming up on verbs that are irregular in the preterite (a past tense) in Spanish.

This lesson covers ir (to go) and ser (to be) in the preterite.

  • How come you don't put un/una in front of profesor and doctora?

  • @xoxGoddess6 we don't use the articles (un / una / unos / unas) after ser with jobs/professions... even though in English we'll say "a"

    ex:

    Soy profesor. (I'm a teacher)

Él es bombero. (He's a firefighter).

  • how come you always forget you (like in plural (many people))

    For ir: Veis

    for Ser: Sois

  • Who said I forgot? I don't use them. I mention this in my video on the personal pronouns.

  • at around 4:26 when you say yo soy profesor-->fui/ profesor---> could i say yo soy un profesor or yo fui/ un profesor

  • When talking about a profession/occupation (with the verb ser), we typically don't use an artice (el/la/los/las; un/una/unos/unas) with the noun.

Thus... Soy profesor. Fui profesor. Eres ingeniero. Fuiste ingenerio. Es secretataria. Fue secretaria... etc

  • @bicentbaby76 To my knowledge you use era, but if there is a specific time period mentioned then you use fue

For example: Ella fue doctora en 2004 vs. Ella era doctora

  • hi great stuff

could you include vosotros you all in spain form por ejemplo fuisteis vais etc

    regards

    warren

  • I LOVE YOU! seriously you are the SPANISH BOSS!...#not a stalker

  • When saying "She was a doctor" is it incorrect to say "ella era doctora"? I thought when speaking in the past about long term situations (such as a profession) the other past tense was to be used. Will you please clarify? Gracias!

  • I am confused!!!! D:

  • ¿Cuál es la diferencia entre "yo fui profesor" y "yo era profesor"?

  • Ahh helpful ass videos. :D My spanish teacher is such a spazz...I dont get a lot out of the classes.
