Temple university School of Dentistry Anesthesia Honor Society members starting IV's on each other. Armamentarium used included butterfly's, catheters, and if students wished they could push a few cc's of sterile saline.

  • @Byrne27 that's standard practice. The catheter is located proximal to the site of entry so applying the pressure there closes the catheter AND the vein temporary while securing the saline lock.

  • why would you place pressure above the catheter when blood flow in a vein moves distal to proximal?
