I... don't know what to think about this version. It kind of loses its "punch" for me about halfway through. It sounds like this is only using two voices (correct me if I'm wrong), but even then, people can do a lot with just two voices. For example, the Atari 2600 version of Thrust.
The music on the Atari version, while not feeling as orchestra-styled as the C64 one,has it's own distinct style,And the actual game still plays great to this day.
@Foebane72: I've got loads of SID stuff and I've never heard any clicks at the beginning of songs or had to edit them out. In fact, I've never even heard of anyone having this problem at all until now. I think it's your source rather than something to do with SID music. That said, there is also a lot of excellent POKEY music which is certainly better than AY stuff. I also rate the POKEY over NES music, which I think is mostly overrated by people.
@inphanta Speaking of clicks, what about the beginning of each SID tune? That has an annoying click I have to edit out with a WAV editor every time I add a SID tune to my MP3 collection. Yes, I do have SID music in my collection, I didn't say I hated SID music. But the standalone clicks are annoying, must be to do with the analogue circuitry. Even so, SID and POKEY are wayyy better than the Spectrum's or Amstrad's Yamaha chips! :)
@Foebane72: Nonsense. I'm certain I've heard way more C64 game and demo tunes than you ever could and I don't recall ever hearing any "clicks" that weren't intentional. You're making things up or trying to think of reasons to discredit SID music (unless you care to cite any specific examples) out of sheer jealousy. Just admit it, if the Atari XL had a SID chip, you'd be squealing with excitement.
The C64 verson had way better music. This is awful. I keep seeing these Atari videos where some nasty, blippy-bloppy tune plays (much like this) and a horde of deluded Atari fanboys clamour on about how much better is than the C64 version... and I have to wonder what they're hearing that I'm not. I've heard better sounding Spectrum 48k music than this.

@inphanta CLICKS! That most C64 music suffers from, more than the Atari in any case.
