I just learnt this song today hence the unflinching, lyric-reading, and slightly psychotic stare directed towards the computer screen (and hence the camera).
It's a bit of a dedication to another 'YouTuber' but I won't say who in order to save us all the embarrassment...
In case of doubt the last lines of the song are:

"Sing your melody
I'll sing along"

One of the reasons I chose this song is because the lyrics carry an uplifting message of hope, but the main reason is that it's quite simple and so less easy to screw up.
In all honesty when I first heard it I thought: "What a complete rip-off of Damien Rice!" Then I learned that Damien Rice is apparently a complete rip-off of Glen Hansard- imagine my consternation! Seems like a chicken and egg situation to me- I think the deciding factor would be: who wore away a big hole in the soundboard of their guitar first? (Obviously pick-guards are not available in Ireland or they may in some way be associated with British nationalism, in which case: I would just like to reassure everyone that I have a pick-guard for the sole purpose of protecting my guitar from 'pick damage', there is no political symbolism intended)
Anyway I would probably still rate Damien as the better of the two on the strength of 'O' and I'm going to be singing some of his songs soon for all you lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) YouTubers!
I've seen other people turn this song into what I could only describe as a 'cheese-fest' so I have tried to bring back to it's hardcore emotional roots (or something).
Apologies for the camera shake- that was down to me tapping my foot rather aggressively and the fact that my house may actually be made of paper and straw.
The lyrics at the end are from the song 'Newborn' by Elbow where I'm sure Glen accidently ripped off the final melodic line from...
Anyway I hope you enjoy it!!!

  • You did an amazing job on this cover. I've seen many covers of this song and while some of them were very good I don't think they managed to capture the emotive connotation that this song holds- which in my opinion is a lot. This song has always been my favourite, I also cover it and that is why I am really impressed with how you've achieved to sing it and give it the justice it deserves. Your voice is beautiful, as is your playing- I hope you keep going and make use of your amazing talent.

  • @willquinn89 Am to F? I would have to be the world's best mime artist to fake it- try it for yourself and post the results! I love the fact that everyone thinks I'm a faker- if I was going to fake it don't you think I'd get rid of all the flat notes?!!!
