In the UK out of a population of 60 million there are approximately 70,000 people living with HIV and 500 dying each year from an AIDS related illness. In South Africa out of a population of 47 million, 5.5 million have HIV and 1,000 die every day.
Positive Heroes is a novel educational, awareness and self-help action campaign in South Africa that draws on the huge power that positive role models living with HIV have to change people's minds, and their responses, to a dreaded epidemic of silence and shame.
