The focus of the book is on genuine faith/Christianity in place of just religion. He is certainly not against the Bible and obedience. He says in "Searching for God Knows What" that the reason we should obey God's laws in not just for the church, habit, or duty, but for our relationship with God. Jesus regularly hung out with non-believers, and was treated with the same judgement this pastor is giving to Donald Miller. I'm a former pastor's son from a fundamentalist background, and

in the churches I was raised in, I saw a lot of judgement, backbiting, and legalism. God's laws are certainly important, but we should not forget about God's grace, peace with others, forgiveness, and love for others. The only way we can truly overcome our sin is through a relationship with God and love for others.

this guy has obviously not read the book and is a moron, with all due respect. that said, the book isn't perfect. it's a memoir of a sinner just like every other memoir ever written, except it's probably more honest. the guy in this video is correct in that America's church is pretty messed up, but I think he should be more intelligent about how/who he attacks the emerging false church. watch john piper's analysis of it.

you know what I find very interesting about this? I find that the idea of a "cool Christianity" is actually more similar to the first church than anything. It's all about "to the Greeks I became a Greek" which the apostle Paul spoke of. Sure, I admit shortcomings and imbalances of the Emerging/Emergent church, but honestly, it's no more disheartening than the churches which deify tradition (which does include KJV onlyism. Just mentioning).
The problem with you analogy is that Paul did not adopt the sinful habits of the Greeks, yet the Emerging Church is more worldly than the world they claim they are trying to reach. Cool is not a godly attitude. Cool is about the flesh. Cool is about 'me.' Cool is about this world. God is not cool - he's holy.
