Today the House is considering, HR 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act. The bill creates the TOUGHEST lead standard in the world for children's products, requires mandatory safety standards for nursery products (e.g., cribs and high chairs) and after review for toys, requires mandatory third-party testing of children's products, requires tracking labels to aid recalls, prohibits the sale and export of recalled products, improves public notice, protects rights of injured consumers to sue bad actors, strengthens the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and provides CPSC with urgently needed resources, and bans travel by CPSC Commissioners and staff that is paid for by an organization regulated by the CPSC.
Please reconsider this awful legislation. Test everything imported from China and other third world countries, fine. But without an exemption for small domestic producers, thrift stores, or reputable European imports, it will cuause far more harm than good.

Protecting children is a parent's job not a bunch of self-important elected swine.
