Benedict XVI has once again requested that all of humanity be provided with equal access to fundamental human rights. Meeting with the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, the Pope noted that human rights are part of universal ethics, which, for believers are in turn rooted in divine law.However, the theoretical recognition of the universality of human rights has not been accompanied by equal access to those rights. Believers ask God for daily bread in a world where adequate nourishment, water, environmental respect, and the use of resources are not equally available to a great part of humanity.
